For this, the second single from the project, the French guitarist joins forces with Malian singer Tina, known for dancing alongside Toumani Diabaté and Salif Keita.
With his Yeko project, the French artist Yohann Le Ferrand gathers African musicians from different backgrounds around his guitar. It represents a series of musical portraits in which he gives voice to different West African singers and aims to find a balance between ancestral cultures and contemporary music. “The Yeko project is a way of exploring different musical styles through the aesthetics and origins of each guest. I usually bring several playbacks that are quite focused, and then we work together on the melody. This is my favourite part because the mutual trust creates a chemistry and the soul of the song is built at this stage,” he explained in an interview.
For this, the second single in his series, the guitarist features the great Salimata “Tina” Traoré on a meditative journey. The softness of the singer’s voice, supported by the lyricism of the cello, immediately charms the listener in a way that expands beyond the Bambara lyrics. Tina evokes life on earth and the trials that help us grow. This single forms part of the album, YEKO, due out in January 2022.
